| QUESTIONS ABOUT RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS |
back to FAQ |
How do I know you have available the boat I want?
If you reserve several days or more in advance we probably have the boat you want available. We recommend you send in your reservation complete with your credit card information and if the boat you want is not available we will call and tell you what boats are available. So be sure to include your phone number.
Is it possible to make a fishing reservation when I get to Cancun?
We do recommend you make your fishing reservations as far in advance as possible so that you are sure to get a boat. During the high season from January to August there are many times we have no boats available 2-3 days in advance. To reserve once you arrive in Cancun call us at 898-4312 or if you are outside Cancun call us at 01-998-898-4312.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel any fishing trip up to 24 hours before departure and only pay a 5% credit card processing fee. If the trip is cancelled because the port is closed then you will receive a 100% refund. Click Here To see all Cancellation and Change Policy.
When I reserve do I get the boat I choose?
Yes. That is why we put the pictures of the boats and a list of equipment on the website. So you can choose and reserve what you want. Of course the further in advance you make your reservation the better the chance you will get the boat you want.
What if the boat I want is not available?
We will call you or email you and recommend a comparable boat before we charge your credit card and make your reservation.
Is the pricing on the website correct?
Yes. The prices are accurate and complete meaning that there are no additional charges. At the end of the trip a tip is optional but generally a tip of 10% - 15% of the charter depending on how successful your crew was for you.

| QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BOATS |
back to FAQ |
How many people can go on the boat?
It depends on the boat. You will notice above the price of each boat the maximum number of passengers that that craft will accommodate.
Do you have English speaking captains?
Our captains and crew speak at least “fishing English.” The language will not be a problem.
Do the boats have a bathroom on board?
Yes. The bigger boats do. The open boats like "LA SIRENITA" do not.
Do I need to bring anything?
As far as fishing tackle is concerned you do not need to bring anything. We provide all tackle needed.
We do recommend you bring a hat and sunglasses and sun block.
Food is not provided, so you may want to bring a lunch or snacks.
Will I get seasick?
Seasickness depends on the individual and the conditions of the sea the day you go fishing. We recommend that if you do not know if you get seasick that you take a commercial motion sickness medication or use the wrist bands or patches that go behind the ear. Why take a chance?

| QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FISHING |
back to FAQ |
What can we expect to catch?
What you will catch depends on the time of year you come fishing.
To see the various species that you may catch click here to see a calendar.
Do you do trolling or bottom fishing?
When you charter the boat you decide. We normally recommend a combination of the two. So if trolling is slow we pull up on the reef and let you go for groupers and snappers. However the decision is yours.
We want to catch bill fish. What do you recommend?
First look at the fishing calendar and come when the bill fish are here.
Second, take an 8 hour charter. You enhance your chances.
Third, tell the captain at check in that your main interest is billfish.
I am interested in the fishing and snorkeling combination full day charter
What can we expect?
We will take you fishing and then snorkeling unless you prefer to snorkel first. Since you want to snorkel part of the day that limits how far offshore we can go for your fishing trip so depending on the time of year you come will determine what fish you can expect to catch Click here to see the calendar of what you can expect to catch.
How much travel time, non-fishing time, is there?
The fishing grounds are about 25 to 35 minutes from the dock.
What kind of bait do you use?
We use ballyhoo, mullet, and lures. We will vary the baits depending on the fish available at the particular time of year you go.
Do you catch and release?
Game fish which are not edible (sailfish, and marlin) are released. If you want to mount a fish them, then those fish are brought in so we can send them off to be mounted.
I want to mount my catch. Can I do that?
Yes the staff at the dock will arrange everything for you so that you can mount your fish and have it shipped.
Is there fly fishing available from the deep sea fishing boats?
The situation is different here in Cancun that in the Pacific where you actually spot the fish. Here you hardly ever see the sailfish - which makes fly fishing for them very difficult. So we do not offer fly fishing from our deep sea fishing boats. To see our fly fishing trips click here.
Is there any freshwater fishing in Cancun.
No there is no freshwater fishing in Cancun. There is saltwater deep-sea fishing and shallow water spin tackle fishing. To see shallow water spin tackle and fly fishing click here.
Should I tip at the end of the fishing trip?
Generally a 10% to 15% tip is given if the crew did a good job for you.

| QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FISH WE CATCH |
back to FAQ |
What happens to the fish we catch?
All billfish caught are released unless you want to mount them. Then we bring them in and they will be sent away for mounting.
Edible fish are put in the cooler and can be part of your “tip” for the crew or the crew will gladly filet them for you. Then you take your catch to your favorite Cancun restaurant for that evening’s dinner.
We strongly recommend that you take some fish filets and go to a local restaurant for dinner. The concierge in your hotel can make restaurant recommendations, the crew at the dock can make recommendations or call us here at 887-8069 and we will make recommendations. One fun way to end a day of fishing is to eat your fresh catch. We also recommend that you have the restaurant prepare you catch 3 different ways. Then you decide which is your favorite. By the way, your meal will cost about $10-$12 USD per person with side dishes when you bring the fish.
What are the best fish to take to eat?
The best fish for your dinner will be Dorado (Mahi Mahi,) Wahoo, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, and Grouper. Any of these will make for an unforgettable dinner.
Can I take fish back to the U.S. in an ice chest?
You can but we do not recommend it. Since security has been tightened at all airports worldwide we do not recommend you try to take edible fish back to the U.S. First the airlines no longer accept Styrofoam ice chest, and securing dry ice in Cancun will cost you more time and effort than it is worth. Then you will have delays on arrival in the U.S. while your baggage is checked.
